The basics

Understanding peptides

A quick primer on how to read this database, reconstitute a vial, and tell a credible source from a risky one.

What are research peptides?

Research peptides are short chains of amino acids studied in laboratory and preclinical settings for their effects on specific biological pathways — repair, metabolism, growth-hormone signaling, pigmentation, cognition, and more. On this site every entry is described by what it is and how it is studied. Materials are for laboratory research use only, not for human or veterinary use.

How do I read the dosing references on each page?

Each peptide page reports dosing as it appears in the research literature or common research-community references — never as a human-use recommendation. Figures are given per compound (for example, mcg per day or mg per week) so you can understand how a compound was handled in studies. Always pair a dosing reference with the reconstitution math for the exact vial you have.

How do I reconstitute a peptide?

Reconstitution means adding bacteriostatic water to a lyophilized (freeze-dried) vial to make a measurable solution. The result depends on two numbers: the peptide mass in the vial (mg) and the volume of water you add (mL). Our reconstitution calculator turns those into a concentration and a draw volume in insulin-syringe units, and each peptide page links to the calculator pre-filled with a realistic starting mix.

What does “Available to source” mean on a card?

Cards marked Available link out to a recommended third-party supplier that stocks that specific compound. Cards marked Reference are educational entries where we do not list a direct source. The Source button is an outbound referral — this site does not sell anything.

How do I choose a peptide source?

Look for published third-party testing (a certificate of analysis, or COA) tied to the batch you are buying, a clear identity and purity figure (research-grade material is commonly 99%+), and transparent handling and shipping. Our recommended supplier meets those checks; you can compare vendors on the sources page.

What is a COA and why does it matter?

A certificate of analysis (COA) is an independent lab report confirming a compound's identity and purity for a given batch — typically by HPLC and mass spectrometry. A batch-matched COA is the single most useful signal that what is in the vial matches the label.

How should peptides be stored?

Lyophilized peptides are generally kept cold and dry; once reconstituted, solutions are typically refrigerated and used within a limited window. Bacteriostatic water (which contains a small amount of benzyl alcohol) is commonly used for reconstitution because it inhibits microbial growth. Storage specifics vary by compound — check the individual entry.

Is anything on this site medical advice?

No. The Peptide Index is an independent educational reference. Nothing here is medical advice, and no compound described is offered for human or veterinary use. Content is provided for laboratory research and informational purposes only.
